CANON VAF PRODUCT FAMILY
Optical Correction Before Image Capture
Mosaic Engineering's Canon VAF-series filters were developed to reduce moiré, aliasing, false detail, and other sampling artifacts produced by several generations of Canon DSLR video systems.
The removable filters operated in the optical path ahead of the image sensor, addressing problematic spatial frequencies before image capture and video compression rather than attempting to correct artifacts in post-production.

Why the Filters Were Camera-Specific
Sensor Sampling
Different sensors and video readout modes created different spatial-sampling requirements.
Mechanical Geometry
Mirror clearance, sensor position, camera-body dimensions, and mounting geometry varied between models.
Optical Thickness
Material placed in the converging image path could influence optical path length and focus behavior.
Lens Behavior
Lens angle, focal length, aperture, and zoom behavior could influence the performance of the complete camera/filter system.
